Socket Preservation

Sometimes, the removal of a tooth that is broken, infected or impacted has to be removed.  Once the tooth is extracted, the open area (or socket) in the bone that is left behind can recede.

Socket Preservation can help restore the area where the tooth was removed to preserve your oral health. After the tooth is removed, your oral surgeon will fill the remaining area with bone or a bone substitute to prevent bone shrinking or the collapse of the surrounding gum and facial tissues.  Once the socket is healed, the newly formed bone can serve as a foundation for a dental implant to replace the missing tooth, restoring function and appearance.
